BPS Logistics Technology Helps Advance Smart Pharmacy Automation for Public Healthcare

BPS Logistics Technology (HKLTS) is delivering an integrated pharmacy automation solution for the Out-patient Pharmacy Department of a major public hospital redevelopment project in Hong Kong. The project will integrate a Pharmacy Automation Dispensing System (PADS), automated storage and retrieval, medication sorting, smart conveyor- and workflow management technologies to create a more accurate, coordinated and controlled medication-handling process.

Integrated Pharmacy Automation: Seamlessly Connecting Storage to Dispensing

HKLTS's scope covers the supply and installation of the Smart Integrated Conveyor System, E&M services and installation, and project management and support. The overall solution also brings together pharmacy operations, queue information display, workflow monitoring, and Computer Aided Picking System support.

By connecting these functions, the solution supports an end-to-end medication-handling process, creating a smoother, more structured flow across the pharmacy operation.

Powering High-Throughput Pharmacy Operations

The system is designed to support a processing capacity of a minimum of 480 prescriptions and 2,400 drug packs in peak hour. Automated equipment and centralised system management help coordinate medication handling and picking activities, supporting consistent and efficient processing across different stages of the dispensing cycle.

For a high-demand hospital pharmacy, achieving this level of throughput requires close coordination across operational stages, as well as reliable interfaces between the individual systems.
